HB 596, which establishes the Jackson Parish Dugdemona Watershed Authority, now waits approval by Governor Kathleen Blanco.
The bill authorizes "lakes, golf courses, playgrounds, picnic grounds, parks and any other facilities to accommodate the public," including "retirement communities, marinas and other economic development interests."
Sen. Bob Kostelka, R-Monroe, told the Senate that HB 596 was a "local bill" that would allow the watershed authority to explore the possibility of a reservoir in Jackson Parish.
