Ex-RHS star goes from walk-on to all-star for Tech

As former Ruston High School star Stephen Warner (63) has stepped up his game, so have his teammates in the Louisiana Tech University offensive line. Warner was a vital part of the Bulldogs’ outright Western Athletic Conference title and San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl berth this season, as well as recently being selected to the top units of the All-WAC and All-Louisiana squads.

Think about this when you’re searching for a “feel good” story in college football and, specifically, at Louisiana Tech University.

Four years ago, Stephen Warner was simply hoping to get an opportunity to play at the college level.

Nothing more, nothing less.

Despite being an All-State selection by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association as an offensive lineman and an integral part of Ruston High School’s offense, Warner received only a sampling of feelers from collegiate coaches.
