John W. “Papa John” Lowrey
Funeral Services celebrating the life of John W. “Papa John” Lowrey will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, December 27th, 2011 at Owens Funeral Home. Offciating the service will be Rev. Reginal Colvin and Rev. Jeff Stroud. Interment will follow in Choudrant Memorial Cemetery in Choudrant Louisiana under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston.
Mr. Lowrey was born May 19th, 1922 and passed on December 22, 2011. Among Mr. Lowreys many accomplishments was his landing on the first wave at Normandy beach. He served his country between 1942 and 1945 as part of the 746th Tank Battalion. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart as well as the Presidential Award. John was preceded in death by his two wives Irma Johnson Lowrey and Irene Lowrey, parents Joe Lowrey and Maggie Lowrey his sisters: Irene Rice, Odessa Rider, Nedra Rhymes and Jo Chorak and his brother Emmett Lowrey.
Left to cherish many wonderful memories of our beloved Papa John are his daughters Brenda Arnold and husband Lynn and J'Nell Nutt and husband Charles Ray. Stepdaughters Barbara and husband W.H. George and Jeanette and husband Ernest Conn, stepson Gary Barr and wife Lori, grandchildren Beverly, Delana, Ricky, Dwain and Chuck, great grandchildren Brandon, Brad, Shane, Clinton, Dylan, Neal, Chris and Eric also 3 Great Great Grandchildren Chloe, Madison and Heidi, 14 step grandchildren, 7 step great grand children and 3 step great great grandchildren, his sister Katherine Davis as well as other family members and friends.
Pall bearers will be Brandon Dorman, Steve Moore, Danny Hancock, Doyle Brown, Mark Conn and Eddie Ford. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM Monday, December 26, 2011 at Owens Memorial Chapel in Ruston. In leiu of flowers the family asks that memorials be sent to the Lakeview AF JROTC.
