Dowies, Voorhees unite in matrimony
Maggie Lee Dowies and Matthew Lawrence Voorhees, both of Ruston, were united in marriage on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011 at 5 o’clock in the evening in the Royal Garden Terrace of the Omni Royal Orleans in New Orleans.
The ceremony was officiated by Dr. Steve Fowler, of Shreveport, with floral designs created by Lisa Clapper Smith of Petals-N-Parties.

A reception followed the ceremony, where entertainment was provided by Decades Music.
The wedding cakes were created by Royal Cakery of New Orleans.
The bride is the daughter of Gil and Melinda Dowies, of Homer. She is the granddaughter of Carrell and Harriett Dowies and the late Bud and Lillian Meadors, all of Homer.
The groom is the son of Larry and Sandra Voorhees of Monroe. He is the grandson of Barbara Voorhees and the late Lloyd Voorhees and Mackie Fitch and the late Sidney Fitch, all of Monroe.
Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, Maggie wore an elegant creation of ivory Paris chiffon by designer Maggie Sorrento. The fitted, ruched chiffon bodice was accented with a strap of handmade flowers, sprinkled with tiny silver beads and crystals. The floor length skirt featured an asymmetrical waistline embellished with handmade floral appliques, sprinkled with beads and Swarovski crystals. The gown’s corset back fell to a chapel length chiffon train and she wore her mother’s veil.
Katie Guillot of Longview, Texas, served as Maid of Honor. Bridesmaids were Jenna Lee, of Bossier City, Kendra Palmer, of Bossier City, and Lizzie Rentz of Shreveport. The bridesmaids wore matching floor length gowns of hunter green chiffon. The ruched bodices featured straps of delicate chiffon flowers.
Chris Voorhees, of Monroe, brother of the groom, served as Best Man. Groomsmen were Mr. Stephen Dowies of Homer, brother of the bride, Brian Duncan of Phoenix, Ariz., and Nick Hopkins, of Ruston.
Maggie graduated from Claiborne Academy and Louisiana Tech University. She is currently employed at Northern Louisiana Medical Center as a coder.
Matt graduated from Neville High School and Louisiana Tech University. He is currently employed at Squire Creek Country Club as Sous Chef.
Following a honeymoon trip to St. Lucia, the couple will reside in Ruston.
