City of Ruston supervisor urges proper disposal of grease when cooking

Residents should never pour grease down the drain. Improper disposal of grease is one cause of sewer overflows in the city.

As residents prepare large Thanksgiving dinners, they should be mindful of their kitchen practices to avoid any problems in the sewer system.

A portion of sewer problems in the city of Ruston are due to people putting things down their sinks and toilets that they should not, City Environmental Services Manager Camille Mize said.

“Every now and then we get a call where sewage has backed up into a house,” Mize said.
