Among that increase has been a marked jump in the number of male clients, executive director Cathy Ayo said.
“I have had various meetings with other program directors and they have mentioned the same trend,” she said. “There have always been more female victims than male, but I think now the males feel more comfortable coming forward.”
However, there still remains a common misconception that abuse does
not happen in this community, she said.
