Random thoughts along the sports beat while wondering how many fans are really losing sleep over the NBA lockout:

• The best sports city in the U.S. these days is Dallas where, if you include neighboring Fort Worth and Arlington, can claim a Rose Bowl champion (TCU), American League title winner (Texas Rangers) and NBA champ (Dallas Mavericks) in the past 12 months.
When Sporting News magazine recently published its annual list of best sports cities in the nation, the Metroplex finished No. 1 for the first time ever.
