Man comments on nuclear power
Nuclear power is good for Louisiana’s economy and environment. The Waterford 3 and River Bend reactors supplied Louisiana with 18 billion megawatts of electric power last year. They did this safely, affordably and reliably without polluting our air or water.
Safety is a top priority. In the aftermath of the Fukushima disaster, efforts have been made to apply lessons learned from the cascade of failures at the Japanese plant. Yet, despite the enormity of the damage done by the earthquake and tsunami — entire villages were swept away and more than 10,000 people died — only one life was lost at the Fukushima reactor site, and that was due to the tsunami, not radiation. The prompt evacuations by the Japanese government greatly reduced the chance that anyone will be harmed by radiation.
