As a reporter, my thought was to get to work as quickly as possible — this was a watershed event in the history of the United States and stories had to be written.

We were both correct. Our son Justin did go to war — in both Afghanistan and Iraq. And I did write stories about the event, and continue to do so five years later.

Sept. 11, 2001, is this generation’s day of infamy. Like those who were alive on Dec. 7, 1941, and Nov. 22, 1963, today’s generation — almost to a person — can tell you exactly what they were doing when they learned of the horrible events of that morning.
