Students join neighborhood project

Leader photo by TAYLOR ASWELL Students from I.A. Lewis Elementary School paint fence posts along with members of the Louisiana Tech chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. The fences were being painted as a part of the SOCA community garden project.

Even with the community garden in place, Ruston’s SOCA (South of California Avenue) project still has some work left to do, and on Saturday groups gathered at Duncan Park to lend their hands painting fences to decorate and protect the newly-planted garden located at 401 Union St.

Tech’s Community Design Assistance Center (CDAC) students, part of the School of Architecture, have partnered with the community for the SOCA project, designed to improve the social, living and working conditions for residents in that area by creating projects that will bring positive change to the community.
