LAFAYETTE — The Ruston Bearcats finished fourth overall in a 14-team weekend swim meet in Lafayette.

Individually, Ruston junior Jake Kyte led the Bearcats with a first-place finish in the 500-meter freestyle and a third-place finish in the 200 freestyle. He qualified for the end-of-the-season state meet in both events.

It was the season opener for the Ruston, Cedar Creek and Choudrant High School swim teams. Cedar Creek and Choudrant tied for twelfth overall. Among the other schools in competition were Academy of the Sacred Heart, Alexandria, Barbe, Grand Lake, Lafayette, Menard, Sam Houston, St. Louis Catholic, Sulphur and Westminster Christian.
