The 21st Annual St. Jude Chili Cookoff is right around the corner and cooks from across the nation are making plans to attend.
Minden has again been designated as the site for the 2012 Louisiana State Championship. State Championships not only draw more cooks, but the first three Louisiana cooks that place automatically qualify for the World Championships held in Terlingua, Texas during the first weekend of November.
Cold weather does not mean that you must put your exercise regimen on ice. Winter can frustrate even the most motivated of exercisers. And if you’re not so motivated, it’s all too easy to pack your workout gear away with your summer clothes and at the same time, pack on the pounds.
But keeping up your exercise routine in cold weather can be rewarding.
I would like to wish Ken Maki the best in his retirement, he has earned this time. His writings have been entertaining and informative for many years and the following of readers have benefited from his gardening wisdom and wit.
This column will always embrace the spirit of Ken. Any writer can put words on paper, but Ken’s column had a personal side and touched all readers, forming a bond which made all of us his friend. We will miss his words, but I can assure you he will be no stranger in future columns. I appreciate and look forward to continuing the tradition initiated by Ken.
Ruston High School recently brought home top honors and a $1,250 technology prize for the school’s STEM program as the champion team for the 2012 Cyber Discovery 1.0 Camp. Held at Louisiana Tech University, the week-long residential camp focused on cyber security through a robotics model with intense and highly interactive connections daily. The camp featured discussion sessions, hands-on labs, a cryptographic treasure hunt/cyber-crime race, evening cyber-related film sessions and a final day cyber-challenge.
