Local man wins regional team roping championship

Stephenville, Texas — A local roper qualified to compete at the richest team roping in the world during the recent United States Team Roping Championships (USTRC) Southeast Regional Finals Sept. 3 at the Tunica Arena and Expo Center in Tunica, Miss.

Matthew Stephens, of Choudrant, roped four steers in a time of 34.13 in the No. 10 Shoot Out division with partner Michael Stamper of Columbia. The duo took home custom Martin trophy saddles and split a paycheck for $10,000.
