Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Graveside Service at Pisgah Cemetery in Bernice, LA at 5:00 PM on Saturday, August 27, 2011 for Dan Copeland, 71, who passed away peacefully Monday, August 22, 2011 at the Bernice Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Reverend Monroe Copeland will officiate the service.
Dan was born February 12, 1940 in Bernice, LA. He graduated from Bernice High School in 1959. Dan spent most of his working career in the offshore oil industry in the Gulf of Mexico where he worked as a crane operator. He was a die-hard LSU football fan and loved the Saints. Many of his conversations centered on how LSU was going to do that year. Dan had a sense of humor like nobody else. Those who knew him laughed constantly at his un-ending jokes and stories. His last 8-9 years were spent at the Bernice Nursing Home, and those employed, and visited, found Dan to be the fun-loving person we all knew. His wit and playful personality will be sadly missed by all who crossed his path.
Dan is preceded in death by his parents, the late Jessie and Ruth Copeland of Bernice. Dan was one of fifteen brothers and sisters. Preceding Dan in death was sisters Edna Alexander, Ramona Post, and Alline Puckett; brothers Reece Copeland, Dwayne Copeland, Elwin Copeland, Sidney (Punk) Copeland, Bobby Copeland and Dale Copeland. He is survived by two sisters; Johnette Davis and Suzanne Carroll and three brothers; Monroe F Copeland, Glover Copeland and Joe Copeland.
He is also survived by two sons, Timmy Copeland and wife Wendy, their two children Lane and Joshua of Opelousas, LA; Tracy Copeland and wife Judy, their three children Samantha, Christopher, and Matthew of Ruston, LA; and one daughter Tierny Robertson and husband Greg, their four children Austin, Kennedy, John Phillip, and Kate of Lafayette, LA. Dan was a loving grandfather to his 9 grandchildren and always enjoyed their visits.
The family wishes to acknowledge the generous kindness and support from the staff at the Bernice Nursing and Rehabilitation Center during his stay there. The family also appreciates the exceptional care provided by Cathy and Allison with Hospice of Ruston. Your compassion will be forever remembered.
