“We must address the concerns of our rural areas, including keeping a fresh, clean water supply for our residents and community development.”

The water conservation funding would help identify and develop an alternative water supply to abate the overuse of the Sparta Aquifer in
north central Louisiana.

Ruston Mayor Dan Hollingsworth said the funding is greatly needed for research.

“It (funding) has been coming in increments, but any way we can get it
is fine,” Hollingsworth said. “It’s critical to our area that we get this study done and find a real solution to our water needs.”
