Mildred Mall Dickson will celebrate her 100th birthday today with family and friends at the Wesley Chapel Methodist Church fellowship hall. She was born in Lincoln Parish and has been a long-time resident. Mildred graduated from Louisiana Tech University in 1934 with her bachelor’s degree in math and science.
Jordan’s Korean Karate is pleased to announce a new Ruston Parks and Recreation class. The class will be held from 5-5:45 p.m. on Thursdays in the McLane Multipurpose Center on James Street (in front of Ruston High School). The new addition will join the programs’ other class times and will offer both new and current students the opportunity to train in the martial arts.
Jordan’s Korean Karate is directed by David Jordan, ninth degree black belt. Loren Todd, first level black belt will be the head instructor of the Thursday night class.
The VFW Parnell-Burt Post 3615 wishes to thank the Boys Scouts of America from United Grace Methodist Church for putting out flags at the cemeteries on the holidays. Troop 59 has put out the flags for the VFW Post as long as J.D. Harper has served as commander. Harper said he would like to thank Roger Moore with the Boy Scouts for his leadership, as well as the parents of the young men. The Junior Guild held their February meeting at LifeHouse Ministries. Donna White welcomed our program speaker the Rev. Cathy Brewton, who opened the meeting with prayer. Brewton is the director of LifeHouse since its realization in 2011. Many needs of the community are met here, such as hospitality, spiritual direction, community meals and nondenominational Bible study on Sunday nights, to mention only a few.
