Youth receive basic fundamentals at conference
On June 16 Louisiana United Methodist Children and Family Services (LUMCFS) Life Skills Training Center/Region 9 Independent Living Providers hosted a Reality City 2011 Youth Conference.
More than 100 Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) and Office of Juvenile Justice (OJJ) teens attended this event. Reality City is a conference designed to meet specific needs of youth in state care.
According to a 2008 study by the Coalition for Personal Literacy, the average high school graduate lacks basic skills in the management of personal finances. Most simply have no insight into the basic survival principles involved with earning, spending, saving or budgeting.
