Heat, drought make for sultry summer

Don’t look now, but Mother Nature is back at it. She’s been out in force this year, seemingly stronger than ever, as parts of the nation, and even our region, have seen some extreme storms and flooding. There have been devastating tornadoes.

And now she’s turning up the heat. While we’re no longer under a heat advisory, daily heat indexes remain in the 105-degree range. The National Weather Service Office in Shreveport reports that most locales across the region have recorded at least 10 days that temperatures have reached or exceeded 100 degrees. According to weather.com, average temperatures in Ruston this time of year are a high of 93 and a low of 70.
