With the 21st century a little more than a decade old, it is already apparent how this century will be different from the last one for American agriculture.

The major difference has nothing to do with organic farming, biotechnology or biofuels. It’s not about new forms of agriculture or new markets. The difference has nothing to do with climate change or water resources; it’s even broader and more fundamental than that.
