Looking back on Robert C. Synder
Maybe it was because I was raised in Dubach instead of Ruston and took freshman English at LSU instead of Louisiana Tech that I had never met Mr. Snyder. One day he strolled over to the table we were eating at Russ House. He greeted my father, his co-resident, and chatted a while.
Then he said, “So these are your two sons … which one writes for the paper?” I said I do. “I really enjoy your articles,” Mr. Snyder said and I thanked him. After he left, my brother Ben leaned over the table and whispered, “Do you have ANY idea what a compliment you just got?” I said no. He said, “That’s Robert Snyder! He used to write speeches for governors...” I later asked Mr. Snyder if I could interview him. He graciously accepted and I’m glad he did. Here’s the piece I wrote in 2008 titled, “Looking Back on Robert C. Snyder.”
