GRAMBLING — The town of Grambling is anxiously preparing for its annual Juneteenth celebration.

Juneteenth is celebrated nationally and is traditionally known as the United States’ oldest celebration of the end of slavery.

Grambling’s event, the oldest heritage festival in Louisiana, kicks off Wednesday with opening ceremonies, an old-fashioned campground prayer meeting and what has become known as “Conversations Under the Tent,” which involves members of the different generations present at the festival telling stories of the city’s history and sharing their perceptions of Grambling.
