The Choudrant Fire Department still has approximately 30 tickets left for their 52-week gun raffle, which began in September.
Overall, only 1,000 tickets were made available, but residents still have time to buy their $100 ticket to win.
As an added bonus, those who buy a ticket will also be helping out the Choudrant Fire Department.
The raffle is not a traditional raffle with only one winner chosen. Tickets have the numbers 000 through 999. On Saturday nights, the ticket number that coincides with that night’s Louisiana Lottery Pick 3 numbers will be the winner.
Early voting in this month’s special election to fill former Rep. Rodney Alexander’s 5th Congressional District seat begins Saturday, but local political watchers say the contest hasn’t stirred much emotion in Lincoln Parish thus far.
“I don’t detect a lot of interest,” Lincoln Parish Registrar of Voters Dianna Stone said.
Alexander, R-Ruston, resigned Sept. 26 to become secretary of Louisiana’s Department of Veterans Affairs. Fourteen candidates are vying for the just more than a year left in Alexander’s congressional term.
At approximately 9:30 a.m. today, an 18-wheeler collided with a vehicle at the intersection of Eagle Drive and North Service Road East. At least one individual was airlifted away from the scene. Because emergency responders were still on the scene, information was unavailable as of press time. See Friday’s paper for the full story.
