In order to keep the area as safe as possible, a Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development spokesman told mayors and other governmental leaders from cities and parishes across north Louisiana that some railroad crossings would be closed and consolidated with other crossings. This would effectively make those roads with closed crossings dead end streets.

These crossing closures — or road closures — in Ruston proper and all along the KCS railroad in the Interstate 20 corridor, could have serious consequences for those living near the current crossings.
