Louisiana Tech’s summer quarter commencement exercises were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, with diplomas awarded to 298 graduates. Commencement marked the close of summer quarter activities at the university, with fall quarter classes to begin Sept. 8. Area graduates were as follows:
A Lincoln Parish resident was arrested after law enforcement officers located suspected methamphetamine near his genitals.
Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Lincoln Parish Narcotics Enforcement Team arrested Tony Deland Eley, 44, of 1239 Oilfield Road, Dubach, and Harold Lynn Gardner, 45, of 209 Woodhaven Drive, at around 11 a.m. Wednesday.
According to the arrest affidavit, deputies initiated a traffic stop on a Dodge Charger traveling eastbound on Interstate 20 for illegal lane usage.
“I just hope people could understand that I am doing this for a good cause and that it’s not like a video game when it comes to being here — there is no respawn button. You get killed here, you are gone. Game Over.”

He posted it in his journal on July 25, 2012, as he served as a sniper and mortar gunner with his unit in southeast Afghanistan.
