After a Broadway-esque pageant featuring daywear, swimwear and talent, Miss Cover Girl 2005-06 Portia Taylor took one last walk and crowned sophomore Shanica Thompson Miss Cover Girl 2006-07.

“This feels wonderful,” Thompson, from West Monroe, said. “I never expected to hold this title — it is very overwhelming.”

Thompson’s platform is Music for Thought and emphasizes the use of music in education; for her talent, she played the flute.

Eight women competed for the Cover Girl title. First runner-up was Natalia Stroman and talent winner Chandri Morton claimed second runner-up.
