I will admit that some days, I don’t want to climb out of my comfortable bed and trek to work in the morning.
While I love being a journalist — it is one of the most interesting jobs I think one could choose to have — there are of course days I’d rather drive off into the sunset and take an adventure.
Well, this past weekend, because the reporters (myself included) at the Ruston Daily Leader managed to rack up several first, second and third place awards in the annual Louisiana/Mississippi Associated Press Managing Editor’s competition, I had the chance to do just that.
Anyone who knows me can tell you that I am an animal lover. We have always had our own dogs, and since we live out in the country, we often find stray pups. A few years ago, I counted heads around our house, and we had 13 dogs at one time! There were our own (two labs and a pit bull), my daughter’s cocker, my sister’s dachshund, and our house guest’s Yorkie, plus a litter of wild puppies that my husband had found! We are currently down to four dogs — three labs and a boxer rescue from the Monroe Humane Society.
It’s all part of the excitement of NFL training camp.
Yes, practice after practice can be a tedious thing, especially for the players. And while I love watching preseason games on television, I approach them in a totally different way than a regular season game. Winning and losing doesn’t really matter this time of year. What does matter is finding the best group of players to give you the best chance of reaching every team’s goal – the Big Dance – a Super Bowl berth.
