RESOLUTION NO. 726 OF 2011
RESOLUTION DECLARING CITY OF RUSTON ALDERMANIC DISTRICTS TO BE MALAPPORTIONED
WHEREAS, the 2010 decennial census indicates a number of population shifts within the City of Ruston, Louisiana, which causes substantial variation in representation of the current Aldermanic Districts; and, WHEREAS, the City entered into a professional services agreement with Precision Cartographics (“Precision”) pursuant to Resolution No. 722 of 2011, adopted February 7, 2011, to provide services related to reapportionment; and, WHEREAS, upon receipt and analysis of the 2010 decennial census data, Precision has determined that aldermanic districts exceed or are diminished more than plus or minus five (5%) percent; and, WHEREAS, the Board of Aldermen of the City of Ruston has found the current election districts to be malapportioned in light of criteria established under applicable federal and state laws;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF THE CITY OF RUSTON, LOUISIANA:
§1. It is hereby recognized and declared that, in accordance with data provided by the United States Census Bureau for the 2010 decennial census, there is a need for the City of Ruston Board of Aldermen to reapportion its election districts.
§2. This Resolution shall become effective upon final adoption and signature of the Mayor.
This Resolution after having been read and considered by a quorum of the Board of Aldermen, on motion to adopt by Alderman Elmore Mayfield and seconded by Alderman Jedd Lewis, a record vote was taken and the following result was had:

ALDERWOMAN MARIE S. RIGGS
NAY: NONE
ABSENT: NONE
WHEREUPON, the presiding officer declared the above Resolution duly adopted in full on this the 7th day of March, 2011.
