Lynn Bretz

Ruston native Lynn Bretz, 62, died in Lawrence KS on Sunday, May 27th, after a 21-month battle with esophageal cancer.

Friends and colleagues at Kansas University remembered Lynn Bretz as a consummate professional who worked hard to tell a story. She was employed in KU’s office of University Relations, becoming its director in 2002 before being named as KU’s director of University Communications in 2006.

Floy Eva Porter

Floy Eva Porter, 82 years young passed away May 25,2012, after a short illness, in
Sweetwater, Tennessee. Floy was born in Jackson Parish on August 30, 1929. She was
predeceased by her husband of 67 years, J.L. Porter and parents George and Eva Carter.

Survivors include one son, Gary Porter and wife Sandy of Haughton, Louisiana, one daughter, Cheryl Wilkinson and husband Jim of Vonore, Tennessee. Two sisters, Beatrice Tolar of
North Richland Hills, Texas and Jerry Tolar of Ruston, Louisiana, Six grand children
and ten great grand children and numerous well loved nieces and nephews.

Nelda Rae Bullock Allen

Nelda Rae Bullock Allen, 76, of Ruston, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, May 23, 2012. She was born, August 15, 1935, in Choudrant, LA. Mrs. Allen graduated from Downsville High School as Valedictorian in her class and attended Louisiana Tech. She was a lifelong resident in the New Hope Community of Ruston, LA. Mrs. Allen was known for being a seamstress for many years for area businesses, friends, and family. She was a very active member of her church, The Living Church of God of Monroe, LA. and loved her family, friends, square-dancing, gardening and cooking.

Lloyd B. Courtney

Lloyd B. Courtney, 87, of Ruston died May 27 at his home. He was a retired rural letter carrier with the US Postal Service, after 42 years and over one million accident-free miles. Following his service in the US Army as a paratrooper during World War II, he made his home in Shaw, MS. He graduated from Delta State Teachers' College prior to joining the postal service. He was also employed part-time at Dixie Tobacco Company in Shaw for 40 years.

Funeral services for Curtis J. Lee, age 88, of Ruston will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at First Baptist Church in Ruston, LA. Dr. Andrew Johnson assisted by Dr. Chris Craig of First Baptist Church will be officiating. Interment will follow in Bernice City Cemetery in Bernice, LA under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston.

Joy Cathey, age 72 of Clarksville, died on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at Gateway Medical Center.

She was born on June 21, 1939 in Farmerville, LA to the late Arthur and Viola Kennedy.
Memorial service will be held Saturday, May 26, 2012 at 10 a.m. at Hilldale Church of Christ with Brother Steve Kirby officiating. Funeral service will be held on Sunday, May 27, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Farmerville Church of Christ and Graveside service in Shreveport, LA on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 with Brother Eddie Albritton officiating.

Eugene Isaac Harvey

Eugene Isaac Harvey was the fifth child born to George and Blanch Harvey, Berwick, Louisiana. He was educated in the public school system of St. Mary Parish, after which he entered the United States Navy. He later received recognition for his service during World War II in the form of an Honor Medal bestowed upon him by Governor Bobby Jindal. Upon completion of his military service he entered Xavier University and later the University of Indiana where he also began as an athletic trainer. Upon receiving his B.S. degree, he stayed on to complete his Masters.

Services will be held at Emmanuel Baptist Church, May 26, 2012 at 3:00 PM, visitation at 2:30 before services. Officiating the service will be Dr. Michael Hawley, Bro. Mickey Manning and Bro. James Grafton under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston, LA. She will be laid to rest at Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery next to her late husband. Mrs.

Interment will follow in the Mineral Springs Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. You are invited to a celebration of Ilse’s life in the Mineral Springs Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
