William Brewster “Bill” Kinman, Jr., 84, passed away July 30, 2010. He died of complications from strokes suffered in February.

Donald James Hess

James Hess Obit

Donald James Hess, age 92, a resident of Ruston, Louisiana after living in Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania for forty-one years has died July 22, 2010 at the LSU Medical Science Center in Shreveport, Louisiana.

He was born in Crystal City, Missouri in 1918 to Francis Joseph Hess and Anna Mae Bond. He is survived by his wife, LaVerne Margaret Menk of Shaker Heights, Ohio. They recently celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary.

Mr. Hess has four children: Tricia and Donald Walden of Ruston, Louisiana; Charles and Jennie Hess of Fredericksburg, Virginia; Donald Hess of Patterson, California and Rita Holt of North Providence, Rhode Island. He has nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews as well as grandnieces and grandnephews.

He has three surviving brothers: Robert and Mary Lou Hess, Thomas and Carol Hess and Philip and Peg Hess all of Missouri. Both of his parents, as well as his brother Francis Joseph Hess, Jr. and his sister Patricia Mae Green preceded him in death.

After thirty-four years, Mr. Hess retired from PPG Industries of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, as the Director of Human Relations with the Coating and Resin Division.

He was a Fourth Degree Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus. He attended their Tuesday morning breakfast club in Bethel Park, Pennsylvania for many years. He was a Captain in the Quartermaster Corp in the Army of the U.S. during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion.

Mr. Hess was an avid supporter of the arts, loved to golf was a sexton at Our Lady of Grace Church in Upper St. Clair, Pennsylvania and Volunteered many years for the United Way.

Funeral services for Mr. Hewitt Douglas Carter, age 84, of Farmerville, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 24, 2010, at Owens Memorial Chapel in Ruston with Pastor Steven Wilkins and Pastor Duane Garner officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Ruston under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston.
