Nancy Abney Barnes Westbrook

Funeral services for Nancy Abney Barnes Westbrook will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 8, 2010 at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Ruston with The Reverend Edward Head and The Reverend James Benbrook officiating. Burial will take place at Pines Memorial Gardens and the family will receive friends at the Westbrook residence immediately following.

Nancy Westbrook was born February 18, 1920 in Ruston, Louisiana, and was the oldest of the four Barnes girls. She passed from this life on October 6, 2010. Mrs. Westbrook was preceded in death by her husband Jasper Alton Westbrook, Colonel, USAF, ret.; her parents, Dr. and Mrs. J. H. Barnes; her sisters, Betty Ruth Barnes Martin and Mary Holt Barnes Hamilton.

Mrs. Westbrook graduated from Louisiana Tech in 1940. She will be remembered as the consummate hostess and gourmet cook who enjoyed life to its fullness. She will also be remembered for her generosity, her fun loving personality, her caring ways, and her love of life, family, friends, and pets.

Olivia Gray

Olivia Gray, 84, of Castor died Oct. 3 in Ruston. Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at New Friendship Baptist Church in Castor. Burial will follow at Old Castor Cemetery under the direction of Miller Funeral Home.

T.J. Phillips

Funeral services for T.J. Phillips, 87, of Rayville, will be held 2 p.m. Friday at the Church of Christ of Archibald. Interment will follow in Gwin Cemetery in Mangham under the direction of Brown-Holley Funeral Home. Phillips died Oct. 4.

Narvis Davidson Dowling

Narvis Davidson Dowling, 86, of Ruston, died Oct. 4. Visitation will be held from 1-2:30 p.m. Thursday at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston with funeral services to follow starting at 2:30 p.m. under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home.

Janice Carol Upshaw Guin Henry

Memorial services for Janice Carol Upshaw Guin Henry, age 56, of Dubach are scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston with Bro. Lonnie Henry officiating. Mrs. Henry was born January 26, 1954 in Coushatta to William Wesley Upshaw and Janie Mae Upshaw. She died October 2, 2010 in Ruston after a brief illness.

Ruth Holland

Ruth Holland, 84, died Sept. 25. Visitation will be at 5 p.m. on Friday. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Springhill Baptist Church in Simsboro. Burial will follow at the Springhill Baptist Church Cemetery.

Adam Berry Cochran, 30, of Grant Parish, died Sept. 28. Funeral arrangements are incomplete under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston.

Alpha Imogene Rhodes Johnson

Funeral services for Alpha Imogene Rhodes Johnson, 93 of Ruston, will be held on Friday, October 1 at 2:00 PM in the Presbyterian Church of Ruston, Pastor Edith Hill officiating.

Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Ruston under the direction of Owens Funeral Home.

Mrs. Johnson was born March 22, 1917 in Junction City, AR and passed away on September 27, 2010. She was devoted member of the Presbyterian Church of Ruston for 62 years and a member in good standing of the Magi Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star since 1940. She spent her life in the loving and nurturing care of others, be they family, friends or strangers and relished the beauty of her gardens.

James Thomas 'Mix' Howell

A memorial service for James Thomas Howell will be held on Sunday, September 26, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in the Burkhalter Chapel. Reverend Brian Mercer will officiate. Visitation will follow the memorial service at the church.

Graveside services will be Monday, September 27 at 10:00 A.M. at Oak Grove Cemetery in Simsboro, LA under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston.

Thomas was born on November 22, 1919, at home in Simsboro, LA. He passed away on September 25, 2010. Thomas was known affectionately as “Mix” by family and friends. The nickname came from an early cowboy movie star, Tom Mix.

John Erskine Davis

John Erskine Davis, 68, of Ruston, died Sept. 18. The wake will be from 5 – 6 p.m. Friday at Our Christian Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at New Hope Baptist Church.

Burial to follow at George Washington Carver.
