Native receives university appointment

Dr. Lynda Brown-Wright, a native of Ruston, was recently appointed as the founding associate provost for Faculty Affairs at Georgia State University. Her responsibilities are to attend to all matters related to faculty, including faculty appointment, promotions, tenure, faculty orientation and development, administration development, faculty awards, appeals and grievances. She is also responsible for increasing the recruitment and retention of diverse faculty at Georgia State University.

Buck to accept Eagle Scout award

The Louisiana Society of the Sons of the American Revolution will present its coveted SAR Eagle Scout Award to Alexandre Harrison Buck on April 6 at their annual meeting to be held at the Landing Restaurant, 530 Front St., Natchitoches. Buck is also the local winner of the Monroe, Benjamin Tennille Chapter’s Eagle Scout Recognition and Scholarship Competition.

Too old for a mountain retreat?

I hope you get this. I’m so mad at my computer, I don’t know what to do. My problem is I know so little about using one, sometimes I just sit down, turn it on and it starts doing crazy things on its own. Is there a computer made just for dummies? If you know of one, please let me know. I’m interested.

The Cub Scout Thunderbird District Pinewood Derby was held on Feb. 23.

Winners in speed, in the far right picture, from left to right, are sixth place Hunter Ellenberger, fifth place Alan-Michael Stephenson, fourth place Kason Hicks, third place Jaiden Languilli, second place Frankie Stephenson and first place Tyler McKorkle. Participants were from Cub Scout Pack 16 in Farmerville and Pack 59 in Ruston.

Remembering a local legend

A member of “Ruston royalty” has died.
Former state representative L.D. Buddy Napper passed away Wednesday. Funeral services were held this morning at Trinity United Methodist Church with burial following at Simsboro City Cemetery.

Students, teachers engage in Cyber Discovery

Over three dozen teachers from 16 high schools throughout Louisiana and Arkansas gathered on the campus of Louisiana Tech University recently to participate in the official kick-off of Cyber Discovery 2013.
Cyber Discovery is a national cyber education program developed through a partnership between the Cyber Innovation Center’s National Integrated Cyber Education Research Center (NICERC) academic program and Tech. It was created to be a catalytic event for engaging students and teachers in historical, ethical and social issues that are impacted by cyberspace.
