A place like Ruston was far from what Kevin Singh, assistant professor of architecture at Louisiana Tech University, expected when he set out to become an architect.
Rather than drawing attention to his architectural genius with soaring skyscrapers in a large city, the Richmond, Ind., native said he has found his home nestled in the hills of North Louisiana leading his students in an effort to give back through the South of California Avenue, or SOCA, project.

City employees to review retirement plan

in

In hard economic times, many people are worried about what will happen when it’s time to hang up their hat and retire. So, it shouldn’t really be a surprise that some City of Ruston employees — under the direction of Assistant City Administrator Ed Pittman — have rallied to find a more responsive company to handle their deferred compensation plans.
During last week’s city council meeting, aldermen voted unanimously to allow a committee of city employees to consider whether the company currently providing the 457(b) plan, which is similar to a 401(k) plan, should be replaced.

“God was blessing us and we didn’t have sense enough to know it,” Davis said.

“Love of helping people at all ages” was the theme of a recent short-term mission trip to Prelip, Macedonia, by a seven-member team from the First Baptist Church, Ruston.
Keri Murphy, FBC’s Children’s minister and team leader, said, “The amazing trip in assisting two hosts missionaries gave us home-visit opportunities in sharing our faith with several loving and hospitable Macedonian families and of making personal contacts to talk about our city, our state and our country, as well as about our faith. During our eight-day visit, two of our team members, Dr. Clyde Posey and his wife Judy, led a marriage seminar, and I led a children’s story hour. Also, while there, the team members painted some homes and performed other contracting tasks in helping to spread our love and Christianity to the people of Macedonia.”
