RHS: Early home feeling

Bearcats’ first three games on own turf

Ruston High football fans will get an early “home field” feeling about their team during the 2012 season.
The Bearcats’ first three challenges of the rapidly approaching campaign will be played at home.
There’s an Aug. 31 opener against defending Quad-A Louisiana High School Athletic Association state champ Neville, then a Sept. 7 test against traditional North Louisiana power Bastrop and that’s followed by a Sept. 14 host role against Arcadia.

Louisiana Tech's mascot bulldog, Tech XX, commonly called L.T. is missing. He was last seen at 1628 E. Kentucky Ave., Ruston, Louisiana. He has been missing since yesterday evening. There is a $1000 Reward for his safe return, please call Sexton Animal Clinic at 318-251-8283 if you have any news.

Back-to-School Jamboree returns

School supply giveaway, pizza, activities at Greenwood Center

Area students will have an opportunity to obtain free school supplies, socialize and munch on pizza during the Ninth Annual Family Day in the Park Back-to-School Jamboree.
The event, sponsored by the Tellis Cooper Foundation, will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Greenwood Recreation Center, otherwise known as “the blue building,” located at 1306 Cornell Ave.
Event founder Joy Tellis said there are typically enough supplies to be distributed to between 200 and 250 individuals.

Robber sought

The Ruston Police Department is looking for a suspect wanted in connection with an armed robbery that occurred at the E-Z Mart in Ruston in the early morning hours on Sunday.
RPD Public Information Officer Lt. Tim Parker said at approximately 4:15 a.m. Sunday, the department received a call in reference to an armed robbery at the E-Z Mart on West California Avenue.
Parker said the suspect reportedly came into the business with a baseball bat and managed to get away from the store with an undetermined amount of money, and several packs of cigarettes.

‘Train’ about safety measures

Every 1 minute and 10 seconds there is a train collision in the United States.
Couple that with the fact that Louisiana and Mississippi have the most train collision accidents in the country, and it becomes clear why the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office would be concerned for local residents.
On Thursday, Edward Wright, with Operation Lifesavers, a national nonprofit organization promoting train safety, spoke at the first of a series of meetings the sheriff’s office plans to host.

With Ruston Parks and Recreation Department’s fourth annual K9 Pool Party to splash in this weekend, one local veterinarian has a few safety considerations to share with local pet owners pertaining to water.
Dr. Julie Roane, with the Ruston Animal Clinic, said despite being natural swimmers, not all dogs like the water.

Alexander will begin program’s Olympics Friday

Well, all right, they’ve already begun.
But for three representatives from Louisiana Tech University, the world’s ultimate sporting extravaganza officially starts on Friday.
That’s when former Lady Techsters’ star Ayanna Alexander will begin competing in the triple jump for her native country of Trinidad/Tobago.
