Law enforcement trains for active shooters

Members of local law enforcement crept forward with guns inside A.E. Phillips Laboratory School.
In this active shooter training hosted by Louisiana Tech University, about 20 Tech police and Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies learned how to respond in a situation such as the recent tragedy in Newtown Conn., where a gunman killed students and teachers at an elementary school.

Dancing in the spotlight

Creek dancers to perform in 2013 Sugar Bowl

A group of Cedar Creek students will be ringing in the New Year in New Orleans right before having the chance of a lifetime performing in the Louisiana Superdome for the 2013 Allstate Sugar Bowl.
The Emerald Entertainers, the school’s dance line, has been invited by WorldStrides Heritage Performance programs to participate in the bowl. They will have the chance to join other dance, cheer and drill teams from across the country in the halftime show finale for the college bowl game in front of an estimated 75,000 people.

New Year to kick off Buddy Ball registration

Edwin Davis plans to usher in the new year with all his “buddies.”
Beginning Jan. 1, Davis will get registration under way for the new Buddy Ball League in Ruston. The registration process will continue throughout January with games scheduled to get under way in March.

Lake D’Arbonne State Park to host First Day Hike on Jan. 1

Louisiana State Parks is sponsoring free guided hikes at two parks on New Year’s Day as part of America's State Parks’ First Day Hikes project. First Day Hikes offer individuals and families an opportunity to begin the new year rejuvenating while connecting with the outdoors by taking a healthy hike on Jan. 1.

Help provide for teachers

Sometimes teachers decide to supplement their lessons with crafts or unique study tools that require a great deal of extra paper.
Unfortunately, paper, like everything else, costs money. And, the Lincoln Parish School Board is faced with a limited budget, just like many other entities.

How to keep your resolutions

I have often heard people start this week naming their list of things to do, or their resolutions for the New Year. The biggest downfall is they do just that. The “top of the list method” we all use at some point during the day. You tell yourself to “remind yourself” to mail a letter or stop by the bank. The next morning you end up having to resort to Plan B, as the mail didn’t get mailed or the deposit didn’t get to the bank.
