Many people call me right before they plant their gardens, or even after, asking me what they need to fertilize with and how. I can give you a much better answer, with much better results, if you plan for this garden now.
Knowing what is in your soil and what it needs is a basic and first step to a good crop and plant health. Our plants depend on the soils to provide adequate nutrients with which to grow. We must manage that soil balance for best growth.

in
DeGrie, Elizabeth.jpg

Works created from Mardi Gras beads

For many people, Mardi Gras beads are nothing more than party favors, but for German–born artist, Stephan Wanger, they are a medium to create art.
“After my first Mardi Gras parade in New Orleans, I noticed the insane amount of beads that were thrown and hauled away at the cost of the taxpayer. Knowing the symptoms and treating SAD

in
Washington, Jerrilene.

Editor’s note: This is the second in a two-part column about seasonal affective disorder. The first part ran Nov. 19.

If you break up with a boy or girl friend or struggle with other problems, it is common to feel sad. But if the sadness persists for weeks, especially if there is no apparent cause, this could be a sign of the depression that goes along with seasonal affective disorder.
