Charles Wyly killed in wreck

One of Louisiana Tech University’s legends passed away this weekend following a vehicle collision. According to a story in the Dallas Morning News, billionaire Charles Wyly, age 77, had stopped at the Aspen/Pitkin County Airport in Colorado to purchase a newspaper and was trying to turn his Porsche left onto a highway about 11 a.m. Sunday when another car broadsided him.

Jury meets Tuesday

The Lincoln Parish Police Jury will convene at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Business includes setting public hearing dates for the Property Assessment Board of Review, a tax assessor report by Chief Deputy Assessor Sheila Bordelon and approving a resolution authorizing Jury President Theresa Wyatt to execute necessary documents concerning property acquisition for Fiscal Year 2010-11 Louisiana Community Development Block Grant Mt. Olive water project.

Teen pageant winner preps for national competition

After weeks of preparation the days are coming to a close for a Lincoln Parish resident who will make her debut at the Miss America Outstanding Teen Pageant.
Former Miss Spirit of Ruston Outstanding Teen and current Miss Louisiana Outstanding Teen Justine Ker will travel to Orlando, Fla., the week of Aug. 20 to compete in the Miss American Outstanding Teen pageant.

Police search for 2 missing children

The Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office and Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services are requesting assistance in locating two children who are in state custody and were allegedly taken from their foster parents by the children’s biological mothers.

Arrest made for ‘meth’ possession

A routine traffic stop on Aug. 5 resulted in the arrest of a Calhoun man on several charges.
According to the arrest affidavit, Michael Herbert Nichols, 37, of 233 Parks Lane, Calhoun, was stopped by a Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s deputy at 11 p.m. Friday.
The arresting officer noted in the affidavit that Nichols was sweating profusely, very nervous and had unintelligible speech.

Station No. 21 helps fight fires

While temperatures soar over 100 degrees and a fire can start without reason, Lincoln Parish residents can rest assured that they are taken care of by the Lincoln Parish Fire District No. 1.
A grand opening, ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Aug. 4 for the newest addition to the 20 fire stations located in the parish.

Dads ­— get involved during pregnancy

After months of writing this column and thinking that moms and moms-to-be were the main readers, I was surprised to find out differently.
I attended a recent event and had several men inform me that they had been keeping up with the pregnancy and enjoyed reading my column as well.
Though I’m pretty sure he would never admit it to anyone other than me, I have a very strong inkling that my husband is going to be rather nervous once our baby boy arrives.
