Enterprise Campus was created as an extension of the main campus and will serve as a home for high-tech companies looking to use the intellectual and research strengths of the university.

Gary Patterson remembers vividly how Louisiana Tech and its athletic programs helped shape his life.
And the former Bulldog baseball letter winner hasn’t forgotten.
Patterson — who is the owner of Patterson Forestry Consultants in Ruston — showed his appreciation to his alma mater this week by making a $1 million gift to the Quest for Excellence, the most historic athletics capital campaign in the university’s history geared toward the construction of a 90,000-plus square-foot multipurpose facility in the south end zone of Joe Aillet Stadium.

Mentor relationship celebrated

Pauline Lee C.jpg

Have you ever met someone whose lifestyle encouraged you to be your best and give your best to others? I’ve had the awesome privilege of meeting, working with and observing a woman who influenced me to reach beyond myself and stretch into new and unfamiliar territories. When I really think about it, she’s a woman who was simply phenomenal. I’m talking about Mrs. Pauline W. Lee, former dean of Library Services at Grambling State University.

How to tell when it’s hot

in
Maki, Ken.jpg

This heat and dry conditions are really getting to the large trees. Many have deep root systems but they have taken most of the water out of the soil and now the subsoil.
It will take some time to get water back in the subsoil, and in the meantime many of the large limbs have gotten brittle, and many are breaking off near the trunks. I had three large limbs break off on a giant sweet gum in my front yard. I am starting a four-hour soaking every day under the trees. I now have moistures in the soils 4 feet deep. Now I must try not to get the topsoil too wet. Some yards have soaked the grass to the place it is mud pies.

High school football is back

With football less than a month away, maybe the heat and humidity that has dominated the summer months will be winding down.
Well, at least with another “Jam at the Joe” on the horizon, fans in the area can start having the feeling that the temperatures will escape the triple-digit neighborhood.
Yes, football is upon us again and if it’s late August, it has to mean that jamboree season is here again.

4-H students learn about careers

in
Osdell, Mary Anne.jpg

Lincoln Parish should be very proud of its only winner in the 42nd annual FFA and 4-H State Horse Show.
In Stock Horse Pleasure, 13 and under, Lena Johnson won first place and in Ground Work, 13 and under, fifth. Perhaps this young 4-H’er may be so interested in horses, she’ll work in the equine industry one day. Or maybe she’ll want to be a geologist.
At any rate, recent 4-H programs have presented career opportunities.
