Almost time for tree pruning

t’s time to start thinking about yard tree pruning. Once the leaves have fallen off the deciduous trees and the area had a few days of cold weather, it’s time to get out the pruning tools. However, you don’t want to start too early in the year. Decay fungi spread their spores more profusely in the fall, and wounds from fall cuts often heal slower. Most years, about a week after Thanksgiving is a good start date, and the end of February is a good ending date for pruning.

Stars to benefit Dixie

Glass blocks created by Jeff Robinson of Rustiques are currently being sold as a fundraiser for the Dixie Center for the Arts. The Dixie logo has been placed on reclaimed glass blocks that are more than 100 years old. The $25 gifts — or $40 for two — are enhanced with miniature lights (multicolor or white) that illuminate the star. For more information, call  255-1450 or 265-1954.

Suspect sought in hunting thefts

Crime Stoppers of Union Parish is seeking information about the person pictured above who was photographed stealing game cameras in the Henry Smith Road area. If anyone can identify this person, they are asked to call Crime Stoppers for a cash reward. Crime Stoppers of Union Parish will pay a cash reward for any information leading to the arrest of the suspect. School hosts CCA food drive; students sing in park

On Oct. 29, members of the Lincoln Center faculty and staff held their tri-monthly birthday potluck bash for those members who had a birthday during August, September or October. There was an abundance of food and a lot of good eating. Yolanda Dade, the fourth grade math, science and social studies teacher and fifth grade math and science teacher, was elected Teacher of the Year for Lincoln Center 2010-11.

Fourth-graders at A. E. Phillips recently presented the musical “Walk Like an Egyptian” for students, faculty and parents at A.E. Phillips. It included facts about ancient Egypt and its society. We are grateful to Mr. Boyd for his work in helping put together a “supreme” performance.
