Tech’s Stone Theatre sets auditions for ‘Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp’

Auditions for “Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp” will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday in Howard Theatre, located in Louisiana Tech University’s Howard Center for the Performing Arts.
A meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. each night in Howard Auditorium for adults and children of all ethnicities, second grade and up, who would like to audition for the production. Parents who are interested are also encouraged to audition with their children.

Join Choudrant, Dubach for Christmas events

It’s beginning to look like Christmas everywhere we go.
We may not be having a white December, but we sure do have a good deal of festive cheer, which is just as Christmas-like as any amount of snow.
The town of Dubach is staying busy this season with a Christmas toy drive hosted by the Dubach Restoration and Beautification Organization, a Santa Run on Dec. 24, which will have Santa delivering bags of food and a Christmas Festival located in the Scott Hamilton Warehouse on Saturday.

December is a time of holiday cheer and the spirit of giving is all around. Many people are helping Santa by making a list of what their children want for Christmas and checking it twice.
While parents are tucking in their children as they wait for Santa’s sure arrival, countless children (and prospective parents) only want a family.

Bank of Ruston hosts local artists

Bank of Ruston, located at 505 N. Vienna St., is hosting the 10 Year Anniversary of Art exhibit. The exhibit will be available for viewing through Jan. 2.
All pieces are for sale and can be purchased at the bank. Artists are asked to donate 10 percent of their profit to the North Central Louisiana Arts Council. The exhibit is available for public viewing from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

GSU selects Fobbs as head football coach

GRAMBLING — Former Grambling State University wingback/running back Broderick Fobbs has been named the new head coach of the GSU football program.
Grambling State University President Frank G. Pogue and Athletic Director Aaron James announced the selection of Grambling legacy Broderick Lee Fobbs as the next head coach of the university football team today.

Fugitive flees on foot, arrested in Vienna

At 10:21 a.m. Tuesday the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested a fugitive from another jurisdiction for resisting an officer in Vienna.
According to the affidavit, LPSO stopped a Dodge Challenger for speeding. When the deputy asked for driver’s license on both men, neither reportedly had one. When asked his name, Lavarus Kendrix allegedly told the deputy his name was Marquis Woods. While the deputy was running the paperwork, the subject known as Woods fled on foot running northbound.

Tainter gate dedication set

The Bayou D’Arbonne Watershed Lake Commission will host an official opening ceremony of the newly completed Tainter gate spillway at 1 p.m. Thursday.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development will open the gate to control flooding when the lake is predicted to reach 82.5 feet. Onlookers can watch the event on the East Side (Farmerville side) of the spillway at the old state park.

Grambling parade to roll through town

The annual Grambling Christmas Parade is set to roll through the city on Dec. 14.
Nelda Williams Baisy, Grambling Joy Fund Committee chairperson, said those interested in participating should contact her at 247-6912 or 548-6922, or Sadie Ludley, parade chairperson, at 247-6556.
“Area churches, schools, bands, businesses, clubs, scouts, ROTC groups and organizations are invited to participate in the parade,” she said.
When those interested call, Baisy said they should provide their group’s information and what type of transportation they will have.

Bulldogs set to host ULL Ragin’ Cajuns

After a four-year hiatus, Louisiana Tech and the Univesity of Louisiana-Lafayette will renew the oldest rivalry in program history at 6:30 p.m. tonight inside the Thomas Assembly Center.
The rivalry dates back all the way to the first ever basketball season for the Bulldogs in 1926 when Tech (6-1) came out on the winning end twice. In the 86 years of basketball played at Tech, there has only been eight seasons where the Bulldogs and Ragin’ Cajuns did not play each other on the hardwood.

Jenkins provides power for Cedar Creek offense

It’s no secret that Cedar Creek can throw the football when it needs to.
But it’s also a proven fact that the Cougars like to run it more than put the ball in the air.
And it certainly helps your ground attack when you have one of the top rushers in the state, and he’s only a sophomore.
That’s the case for the 9-3 Cougars as they head toward Friday’s Division IV showdown at Vermilion Catholic.
Donald Jenkins has proven to be Cedar Creek’s workhorse and ended regular-season play as the state’s eighth-ranked rushing leader with 1,507 yards and 19 touchdowns on 182 carries.
