Cougars run out of time in battle vs. Ringgold

“This is how basket should be played every time” said Cedar Creek Cougars’ head coach Kyle Kavanaugh.
Some fans leaving the Cedar Creek gym Friday night said it was the best game the Cougars played all season.
Heading into the fourth quarter, the Cougars maintained a one-point lead over the Ringgold Redskins.
But in the end, the clock struck midnight and Cinderella was not there to claim the victory as in the final minutes of the fourth quarter, the Redskins ran away with a 63-49 victory.

Malone powers Creek girls to win

Sophomore center leads Lady Cougars with 15 points

The Cedar Creek Cougars’ women’s basketball team played one of their best offensive games this year Friday night .
Head coach Katie Eagles said her team struggles at times offensively, and it was a point of emphasis at practice leading up to the game against the Ringgold Redskins.
Practice makes perfect, and the Cougars defeated the Redskins 45-25, pouring 19 in the third quarter alone.
The Cougars were led by an impressive 15-point performance by sophomore center Karley Malone.

Techster tennis sweeps Fla. Atlantic

BOCA RATON, Fla. — The Louisiana Tech tennis team started and finished strong on Saturday morning as the Lady Techsters swept Conference USA foe Florida Atlantic, 7-0.
“It was a good day for the Lady Techsters, said Chad Camper who picked up his first win as head coach. “We really hit our stride early in doubles and kept on rolling. It was a productive last two days and after a few days off, we will get right back to work.”
Tech’s doubles tandem of Marta Sramkova and Melanie Urvoy notched their second dominating performance at No. 3 of the weekend, winning easily 6-1.

Tigers top Aggies

Simsboro’s JaMarco Brown (23) goes up for a basket Friday to help lead the Tigers to a 72-57 home win over Choudrant in the District 2-B opener for both teams. Simsboro is now 19-6 and 1-0 in district play while Choudrant fell to 13-12 and 0-1. Lamenting the loss of Lincoln’s poet laureate

In my forty years of living in Ruston, there have been two people whose journalistic brilliance held me spellbound. By soaking up what they do, I have gained insight into how it should be done; how they expertly transfer thoughts and images from the brain and heart through fingertips onto the printed page. Teddy Allen is one; Wiley Hilburn is the other.
Webster defines “laureate” as one “crowned with laurel as a mark of honor.” Wiley Hilburn, in my mind’s eye, sports a laurel wreath.
