David Finley named AACD accredited fellow member

David Finley, of Monroe, has been named an Accredited Fellow of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. To achieve this honor, Finley completed a rigorous examination process consisting of 50 clinical case submissions.
Finley is the 61st AACD Accredited Fellow in history. Fellowship is the highest level of achievement available to AACD members. Its purpose is to provide an additional level of achievement for members in accordance with the AACD’s mission of education and excellence.
Education has always been important to Finley.

Ribbon cutting for NT@R

The Ruston Lincoln Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the new location of New Tech @ Ruston on Oct. 10 at 900 Bearcat Drive.
New Tech @ Ruston utilizes project-based learning to address both rigorous core curricular material and 21st Century skills that emphasize an authentic application of knowledge.

Local soldier dies in accident

Lt. Colonel Michael Brandon Tatum, 39 years old, was recently killed in a car accident in the Nation’s Capital, Washington, D.C. Michael and his family had recently completed a tour of duty in Osan Korea and had begun his new assignment at the Pentagon the first week of August as the Budget Officer to work the Air Force’s military budget sequestration issues at the time of his untimely death. Michael was a “rising star” in the United States Air force and had a bright future.

GUNAA generates support for Grambling State University

Members of the Grambling University National Alumni Association stay busy setting up fundraisers and other community outreaches, and they won’t be stopping until their Christmas Extravaganza Dec. 26.
Liz White, president of the Ruston alumni chapter for GUNAA, said the association has been busy in the community and will continue through December.
“The Ruston alumni chapter has been extremely busy fundraising, promoting interesting the university among high school students and generating support for the university,” White said.

Community Thanksgiving service planned at Howard Auditorium

At 6 p.m. tonight six local Ruston churches will celebrate “Community Thanksgiving Services,” at Howard Auditorium on Louisiana Tech campus for area residents.
This community-wide event is being hosted by the pastors of the following six Ruston churches: Calvary Baptist, Cook Baptist, Emmanuel Baptist, First Baptist, South Parkway and The Bridge.

Shopping event ongoing until 5 p.m. Saturday

Proceeds benefit Cedar Creek School

The holiday shopping season is here and what better way to shop local than to visit Holidays in Cedartown, which is currently happening at the Ruston Civic Center.
Admission to the annual event is $5 per person at the door. Hours are until 5 p.m. today and 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Saturday.
All proceeds from Holidays in Cedartown will go toward providing education for teachers and facility enhancements and upgrades on the Cedar Creek campus.
Anna Alexander, a Ruston native, was on hand at the event with her newest venture — Anna Alexander Designs.

Murder suspect arrested

A month after an alleged murder in Jefferson Parish, authorities found the last of three fugitives in Grambling.
At 11:37 a.m. Wednesday the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office along with U.S. Marshal Gulf Coast Regional Task Force served a warrant to a man wanted for murder and attempted murder from New Orleans.
Kevias D. Hicks, 23, of 2013 Wells in New Orleans, was reportedly arrested at 300 BT Woodard Circle No. 102 in Grambling for first degree murder and first degree attempted murder. There is no bond for either charge.
