GSU women win, men fall at Mississippi Valley State

Grambling State University’s basketball teams split a doubleheader at Mississippi Valley State University Monday, with the Lady Tigers winning and the Tigers falling. Joanna Miller (shooting ball above right) led the way with 20 points as the Lady Tigers took a 67-59 win over the Lady Devils. GSU’s women are now 8-12 overall and 5-4 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. Antwan Scott (5, above left) led the G-Men with 24 points, but that wasn’t enough as MVSU’s men took a 75-67 win over GSU. The Tigers are now 1-17 overall and 1-9 in the SWAC.

Tickets for Tech signing day social now on sale

Louisiana Tech Athletic Club (LTAC) members can still purchase tickets for LA Tech’s Signing Day Social, set for 4 p.m.Wednesday. Attendees at the event will get the exclusive behind-the-scenes stories from the LA Tech coaching staff on the recruitment process of the newest Bulldogs.
Football color analyst Teddy Allen will emcee the afternoon event with Coach Holtz and the rest of the staff on hand to discuss the most recent signing class with highlight clips to complement the discussion.

Tech renews Top Dog program

Louisiana Tech Athletics has announced the official re-launch of Top Dog Rewards Program, a social media rewards program encouraged to help fans spread the word about the Bulldog and the Lady Techster sports programs.
Fans participating have the chance to earn points for sharing and liking LA Tech Athletics Facebook posts, images and videos; retweeting LA Tech Athletics tweets; tweeting with certain hashtags; interacting with LA Tech Sports on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
Fans will continue to receive bonus points for posting the Facebook and Twitter messages of the day.

Cold weather’s effects on insect populations

With the intense cold weather we have recently experienced, a natural question to ask is what effect this will have on insects. While optimistic gardeners are hoping that it will wipe them out, especially the types we like the least like stinkbugs and mosquitoes, the truth is it will probably have a minimal effect on most insects, especially our native species.

Jazz Ensemble to hold winter concert at Tech

The Louisiana Tech University Jazz Ensemble will present its winter concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Howard Auditorium.
Under the direction of Lawrence Gibbs, associate professor of music at Tech, the performance will include an array of jazz music, from early swing to the latest rock and funk.
“We play a wide variety of styles and are covering over an 80 year span of jazz history during this concert,” Gibbs said.

Two weeks ago Tech Nation helped make Operation Sellout one of the most exciting nights of Bulldog basketball in nearly 30 years as 7,355 people packed the Thomas Assembly Center to cheer the ’Dunking Dogs on to victory.
Louisiana Tech University’s athletics department needs that kind of success again this weekend as the Lady Techsters open their season at home with a three-day, six-team, 15-game softball tournament starting Friday and running through Sunday at the Lady Techster Softball Complex.

Serving with a smile

Recently, I went through the drive-thru at the Subway on California to order food for my roommate. When I was requesting what veggies she wanted on her sandwich, the server proceeded to tell me they were out of ranch dressing and tomatoes. Being that those were half the things my roommate wanted on her sandwich, naturally, I should have been upset. But something surprised me that you don’t see too often in fast food lines.
