Layden: High praise for Malone

“Karl said, ‘Coach, you know you gotta play hurt, now get over here.’ So Barbara (Layden’s wife) drove us over to his house. The whole time I was over there, I felt really bad and, to be honest, didn’t feel like staying very long.”
After dining on a meal prepared by Karl’s wife, Kay, the Laydens visited for a while and then were preparing to leave when the former Summerfield High School and Louisiana Tech University star handed over a card to his coach.

Tax break proposals worrisome

Are they oblivious to the state’s money woes, truly committed to the notion that tax breaks would improve the state economy, trying to get a conversation going about a tax cut that could be years away from passage or just engaging in political posturing?
Whatever the case, many folks are on edge.

Legislators have busy months ahead

Here in Lincoln Parish, our two universities face a combined cut total of more than $13 million as part of the overall state plan to trim back higher education by $219 million.
Louisiana Tech stands to lose $8.28 million, and GSU is dealing with $4.9 million in losses.

Seeds planted for shopping explosion

“The arts and crafts and food vendors are a significant draw for the festival,” said Nancy Bergeron, communications manager of the Ruston-Lincoln Chamber of Commerce, which produces the festival. “Folks like to come and shop and see a variety of things. Oftentimes, the items the vendors have are things you might not necessarily see in your local stores. Some people do their Christmas shopping at these festivals.”
Bergeron said the festival attracts vendors from throughout Louisiana, as well as some from Arkansas, Texas and farther away areas, such as Tennessee and Alabama.
