Tech Drive makeover long overdue

It has been known as one of the bumpier, less-fun-to-drive roads in the city of Ruston for as long as some may remember. There is evidence that road work was slated to be done on the .35-mile stretch from Alabama Avenue to Barnett Springs Road as far back as the 1970s.
A swap worked out in 2008 called for the Lincoln Parish Police Jury to take on a small section of Tiger Drive in Simsboro for the Department of Transportation Development to take ownership and do the work required to bring Tech Drive’s rough patch to a smooth state.

’Dogs pumped for T-Day duel

More smack, more excitement generated for the 1 p.m. Saturday battle to be held at Joe Aillet Stadium, right?
“It’s all about promotion,” laughed running back Daniel Porter of the Red squad, “But our team will back it up.
“Those guys on the other team, they probably should think twice about showing up. We are going to be ready to rumble.”
The White squad, however, has other thoughts.
“I know Porter is talking a lot of trash about how many touchdowns he is going to score, but I think our defense is going to shut him down,” White team member Thomas Graham said.

Mop fire smokes out dorm

“We got to looking around up there and figured out that the dust mop was actually off of the floor (in the closet),” Davis said. “It wasn’t touching anything that could have ignited it. We looked in a garbage can around the corner and there was a new garbage bag in there and a bunch of stuff that looked like it might have been swept off the floor, including some rubber gloves and a burned cigar butt.”
