Business in Grambling slowly builds

The departures of stores like Fred’s Pharmacy and Sonic have left the community wondering where they will turn for goods and services as well as jobs, with the thought in mind that more businesses will follow on the way out the door.
Rising gas prices are also putting a squeeze on the small community, with miles separating the people who live there from the most basic of conveniences, like a grocery store and recreational opportunities.

Theft can hatch early in life

In a world where people are honest and respect the boundaries of others, these steps world not be necessary.
But this is not the world we live in. Even in a small area such as Ruston, crime hits home.
The city has been assaulted by a wave of burglaries in the last few months. Items snatched from houses and apartments have ranged from laptop computers and DVDs to jewelry and cameras.
Ruston Police Lt. Curtis Hawkins said it is not uncommon for burglaries to happen in close sequence like this, and many of these types of crimes have historically been tied to drug use.

Baker, Keagle: Preseason honors

In eight of the dozen games in which he played, Baker totaled double digits in tackles 10 different times. His three interceptions came in consecutive games and against WAC opponents.
Keagle was recently included on the Ray Guy Award “Watch List” by The Sporting News as a candidate for the nation’s top honor in punting.
The 6-foot and 233-pound senior was the WAC’s No. 1 punter last year with a 41.3 average and had more than one-third of his kicks being downed inside of the 20-yard line. Opponents averaged only 7.5 yards per return against Tech.

Cooling off

Admission to the Ruston Municipal Pool is only $1.50 and the pool is open from 2-5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. The pool is located at 400 E. Georgia Ave.
