Bulldogs go for first WAC victory

It will be Tech’s first appearance at Joe Aillet Stadium in almost a month. In a Sept. 20 game against Southeastern Louisiana University, the ‘Dogs won 28-16.
If getting a break from jet lag is reason enough for Tech to smile about walking out of its own locker room this weekend, here’s an even more important one: the two wins posted after five games have both been at home (22-14 over Mississippi State in the opener was the other one).

Not all economic news is bad

Consider the long-term market reaction to the following events as outlined by nationally known financial adviser Ric Edelman:
• Despite a 684-point drop in the Dow Jones Industrial Average when the market reopened after the 9/11 attacks, the Dow returned to its pre-attack level within 60 days.
• One year after the Gulf War started, the stock market was up 32 percent.
• One year after the space shuttle Challenger exploded, the market was up 31 percent.
• One year after President Richard Nixon resigned; the stock market was up 7 percent.

Colleges open educational

Gov. Bobby Jindal also has made technical education a priority for his administration, because he realizes how crucial it is for the state to provide businesses with educated and trained employees.
A university degree isn’t always mandatory to achieve a quality, rewarding job in a stable career.
Here in Ruston, Louisiana Technical College is focusing on recruitment and partnerships to meet the needs of local students.
Clearly, those efforts are working as the Ruston campus recently saw a jump in enrollment from 116 to 220.

Ruston 21 revs up

Ken Tipton, of Tipton Associates, the team leader for Ruston 21, said the plan will serve to bridge barriers in the city.
Feedback from all segments of the community is vital, he said.
“Our role is not to conduct the plan, but to help the city develop its own plan,” said Tipton, whose architecture firm has worked on a number of projects at Louisiana Tech University. “It’s a picture of your future and how it meets the needs of you and your children.”
