RHS, Creek have home tests

Now, with that opening contest in the books, the Bearcats move straight into the 1-5A campaign with a 7 p.m. Friday night home battle against Natchitoches Central.

Register, be sure to cast vote Oct. 20

Those of you who have not put your name down on the rolls need to get to the courthouse and do so. You’ll lose your chance to have your voice heard if you procrastinate.
Parents, take your eligible offspring downtown and get them signed up. Let them know how important voting is.
A myriad of state and local offices are up for grabs, including local representatives and state senators, the governor, lieutenant governor and secretary of state, and other statewide offices, as well as the U.S. representative’s seat of Rodney Alexander, R-Quitman.

Keep an eye on the officials

There’s a fine balance to be struck. Thinking of what is happening in front of you as events that affect your life and discovering how they will do so is part of the joy of it.
To those who have never taken the time to attend a meeting of Ruston’s Board of Aldermen or the parish police jury, I say this: take part in your government by keeping your eye on them.
Many don’t look past the end of their iPhone, iPod or iWorld-at-my-fingertips to see the world happening around them these days, and that’s unfortunate.

Law raises ‘protected person’ age

James said these exceptions for protected persons permit prosecutors building their cases to obtain the witness or victim’s statement by either allowing them to testify in a separate room from the accuser and jury while the statement is broadcast or enter into evidence a videotaped statement taken during a forensic interview.
