Walls gives back ‘gift of life’

Most importantly, the special recognition will also provide a chance for the two former professionals, the Cowboys and the National Football League to increase public awareness of their new Gift for Life Foundation.
“We’re using you to help a lot of people,” Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said recently. “Y’all will never come close to making a play on the field that could even approach what this means.”
Walls, who starred as an All-American defensive back at Grambling State University under the late Eddie Robinson, came to the rescue of Springs earlier this year.

Broiling days continue;

With the summer heat and humidity, the interior of a car can quickly reach a deadly temperature.
It’s important that over the next few weeks, as we await the arrival of fall and cooler temperatures, everyone be aware of the situation around them and help each other avoid becoming a victim of a heat injury. The following guidelines are offered to help lessen the chance of heat taking its toll:
• If possible, don’t work outdoors between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. — the hottest part of the day.

Housing goes up, comes down

Financial problems and facilities deficiencies beset the aging institution on all sides when Judson took the reins, and it’s nice to see the physical transformation. Anyone who hasn’t visited the campus since Judson’s arrival, or even in the last year, is set for a shock when they see the housing complexes. They appeared almost overnight.

Ford gives Dubach tax rundown

The tax would enable the fire district to add 5-10 paid firefighters to its current staff of six employees, who provide services such as fire control, trench rescue and public education to approximately 17,000 people.
Ford said the fire department relies heavily on its numerous volunteers, of which the average age of active members is 42. Ford said the department plans to keep all of the volunteers as well as seek new ones, but more young firefighters are needed to carry out the physical work associated with rescues.
