Parish stars honored by coaches

Now, those same players have been selected as members of All-State squads selected by head coaches from throughout the state.
Sanders was named as a pitcher and Marcus as a catcher in Class 1-A, while infielder Woods and outfielders Smith and Albritton were included on the 5-A club picked by a Louisiana Softball Coaches Association committee.
Earning top unit berths in baseball were outfielder/pitcher Brister as the Player of the Year and Andrews as a pitcher for Class 1-B and pitcher Nicholson for Class 5-A.

Teacher pay raises help whole state

Teachers are an essential element in helping students to master concepts that will keep them on the right track in school so they will graduate. In order to retain the good teachers the state already has and to attract more, it is important that their pay be competitive with other areas. Although there will always be strong teachers who stay put in the state due to family ties or loyalty, many chances to draw additional exceptional teachers are likely falling through the cracks as Louisiana educators’ pay remains low.

Go ahead, make my day!

Ms. Rhea with the Lincoln Parish Tax Collector’s Office is one of those people. Even though she has recently gone through her own hardships, she can still find the time to be polite and friendly, making sure to ask how your day went. It doesn’t take a lot of effort, but she can make me feel good even though she brings by lengthy sheriff sales for me to type up.

Lower 9th Ward sees progress

“Cities will use eminent domain to tear down houses in areas with higher crime rates, which also tend to be those with lower income,” Smith explained. “Instead of creating housing projects for the poor, they sell the lots to contractors who build homes for middle-income buyers, eventually forcing out lower-income families.”
