Grambling represented at CWS

Joining Ellis to assist with the clinic that will be held Friday and Saturday on the campus of Creighton University, will be Grambling State players Julian Brown and Mario Jefferson.
Brown is a senior pinch-hitter and designated hitter from Noblesville, Ind., and Jefferson is a junior righthanded pitcher out of Lancaster, Texas.

Talk to kids about fire

Other tips from the USFA include:
• Check under beds and in closets for burned matches, evidence your child may be playing with fire;
• Take the mystery out of fire play by teaching children that fire is a tool, not a toy; and
• Teach children the nature of fire: It is fast, hot, dark and deadly.
It is also important children know how to react in the case of a fire. Parents should work with the children to make sure a home escape plan is in place — which includes having two ways out of every room and designating a family meeting place in a safe area.

Stop, drop and roll silly

Thinking back, I was hard pressed to remember if I had ever seen an ambulance in my hometown of tiny Woodville, Miss., where she lives.

Tech plans for construction

After Phase I, which is scheduled to be complete fall 2009, Speed said Phase II would begin along Everett Street.
The two new dorm complexes should house more than 480 students.
“The first part will be another University Park,” Speed said, referring to Tech’s newest housing along Alabama Avenue.
“Unlike University Park, these units will be full apartments with washers and dryers and full-size kitchens. University Park doesn’t have that; they’re more of utility apartments.”
The Everett Street dorms, Speed added, would be a “hybrid between all.”
