Rike’s draft boosts Tech prestige

Rike is a perfect example.
Coming out of Stephen F. Austin High School in Richmond, Texas, he wasn’t highly recruited.
In fact, Tech was actually the only school that really showed a lot of interest.
“We had him in one of our summer camps, invited him as a walk-on in the fall (of 2004) and then he just went from there,” Simoneaux recalled. “Brian being drafted so high is a credit to the hard work that he did and also to how much Fran and David meant in his development.”

Area resident honored for service

As far as awards are concerned, Price has not been left out there. He has received the William H. Wisley American Civil Engineer Award from ASCE, been inducted into the Academy of Distinguished Alumni by the Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin and has been named a distinguished engineer by the Texas Engineering Foundation.
With Price’s addition, there are now 565 individuals who have been chosen as honorary members since 1853. Price is also a fellow and life member of ASCE.

Oh no, it's that time again

Ah, now you see how I’m getting by with this.
I love shirts. I feel I can usually get more bang for my buck by purchasing five shirts for the same price as I would pay for one pair of pants.
I have similar feelings about shoes. I can wear the same pair of shoes twice a week. I can’t wear the same outfit twice a week, though, so shoes are very important to me.
However, there are a few things I very much despise shopping for: blue jeans are one, but bathing suits take the cake.
Literally. It’s the cake that makes me hate shopping for them.

Head Start serves community

Out of the Head Start student population in the 2006-07 school year, 100 percent were considered low income and more than 10 percent had some type of disability.
“We currently serve 340 children in Lincoln and Union parishes with two centers in Ruston, one center in Bernice and one center in Farmerville,” Head Start Program director M.K. Hill said. “These children are provided educational activities using an approved curriculum with degreed teachers.”
